Telangana Launches Bhu Bharati Portal

Telangana Launches Bhu Bharati Portal

In a significant move aimed at resolving long-standing land disputes and reforming the revenue system, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy officially launched the Bhu Bharathi portal on Monday, April 14, at Shilpakala Vedika, Hyderabad. The initiative is expected to provide lasting solutions to land-related issues for nearly 69 lakh farmers across the state.

A Dispute-Free Revenue Policy

While unveiling the portal, CM Revanth Reddy emphasized that Bhu Bharathi would usher in a dispute-free revenue policy aimed at transparency and accountability in land records. “This portal will provide permanent solutions to land issues, which have long troubled farmers and landowners,” he said, addressing a gathering of revenue officials.

The chief minister also announced the introduction of a Bhudhar card for landowners, a digital document that will contain all essential information related to their landholdings.

Criticism of the Previous Government

In a pointed reference to the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) regime, CM Revanth Reddy criticized the way land records were handled under the Dharani portal. “It had become a nightmare for the people,” he remarked, accusing the BRS government of scapegoating revenue officials for systemic failures.

Highlighting that revenue officials had performed their duties faithfully for over six decades, he questioned the sudden vilification of the department. “Every department has a few bad apples, but branding the entire revenue system as corrupt is unfair,” he asserted.

Empowering Revenue Officials and Ensuring Accountability

The CM made it clear that his government stands in support of honest revenue officials. He encouraged them to engage directly with the public by conducting praja darbars and revenue awareness programmes in villages.

However, he also warned that any official found guilty of misconduct would face strict action. “We support you, but we also demand accountability,” he said.

Pilot Projects and Phased Rollout

State Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy detailed the roadmap for Bhu Bharathi’s implementation. A pilot phase has already been initiated in four mandals – Khammam, Mulugu, Kodangal, and Kamareddy. Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs) will visit every revenue village in these areas to resolve pending land-related issues by May 1.

From May 1 onwards, the initiative will extend to one mandal in each district, followed by a statewide rollout from June 2, covering every mandal and revenue village in Telangana.

Restoration of Assignment Committees

Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the revival of district assignment committees, which had become defunct during the BRS administration. These committees, which historically oversaw land distribution to the poor, will now be reinstated.

Bhatti also assured that steps will be taken to issue pattas (land ownership documents) to those who have been tilling lands for generations but lack formal titles.

A New Era in Land Governance

The launch of the Bhu Bharathi portal signals a major transformation in how Telangana plans to manage and govern land records. With transparency, accountability, and inclusivity as its core principles, the state government is working towards a future where land ownership issues no longer burden its citizens.
