Formation of the New FCDA for Growth Beyond Hyderabad’s Outer Ring Road
The Telangana government has taken a strategic step to foster urban development in areas beyond the Outer Ring Road (ORR) by establishing the Future City Development Authority (FCDA) for the “Future City Area”, in Rangareddy district. This move aims to facilitate comprehensive growth in key zones identified for economic and industrial development.
Background on Urban Development Authorities
Previously, the government had constituted Urban Development Authorities for major towns and cities under the Telangana Urban Areas (Development) Act, 1975. These authorities have played a crucial role in ensuring planned growth within urban zones.
Emerging Growth Zones Beyond ORR
Regions situated beyond the ORR—notably between the Srisailam National Highway and Nagarjunasagar State Highway—have gained prominence due to their strategic location. Their proximity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, and the proposed economic and industrial clusters planned by the Telangana Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) makes them vital growth corridors.
FCDA’s Vision and Development Plans
To unlock the full potential of this area, the FCDA has been envisioned to spearhead development with a comprehensive master plan. Key initiatives under FCDA include:
- Comprehensive Master Planning
- Multi-modal Connectivity Solutions
- Metro Rail and Radial Road Infrastructure
- Modern Urban Amenities
- Economic and Industrial Clusters
- Establishment of the Young India Skill University & Education Hub
Leadership and Administration
The FCDA will be headed by the Chief Minister of Telangana, A. Revanth Reddy. Key members of the authority include:
- Vice-Chairman
- Minister for MA&UD / Industries, ITE&C
- Chief Secretary
- Special Chief Secretaries from Finance, I&C, and ITE&C
- Principal Secretary of MAUD, EFS&T
