Green Signal for Hyderabad Regional Ring Road’s Northern Section
The Centre has officially granted environment clearance for the northern part of the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR), marking a significant step forward for the much-anticipated infrastructure project. This clearance was issued on 18 March 2025.
Southern Section DPR in Progress
While the northern section moves ahead, work is currently underway to prepare the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the southern section of the RRR. The progress of this report will play a key role in determining the timeline and priority of work on the southern portion.
Telangana Government’s Role and Commitment
Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari confirmed that the Telangana government had formally requested the Central Government to sanction the RRR project for Hyderabad. As part of its commitment, the state government has agreed to bear 50 per cent of the land acquisition costs.
However, Gadkari also pointed out that the tripartite agreement between the Centre, State, and National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) for sharing the land acquisition costs is yet to be signed.
Project Cost and Alignment Finalization
The estimated cost of the Regional Ring Road project stands at ₹34,367.62 crore. Minister Gadkari also informed that the alignment for the northern section of the RRR has been finalized, paving the way for further steps toward execution.
Next Steps
The fate of the southern section now hinges on the findings of the DPR and the inter-se priority of the work. Once these details are in place, the government will take further action on the southern corridor of the RRR.
